Three Day Taster

An introductory course ideally suited for those wishing to gain a practical understanding of archaeological research.

This 'hands on' course, a combination of lectures, field trips and practical sessions, has been devised for participants to gain an appreciation of the various disciplines employed in the area of archaeological study.

Whether you are looking to satisfy an interest in Archaeology or you are seeking an 'Activity break' with a difference this course will be challenging and fun. Experience Achill Island and explore its past.

Achill Archaeology Centre - county mayo, ireland

Bare Bones

An intensive 2-weeks course of excavation and recording procedures on site. This course is suited for both novices and those who have limited excavation experience. Ideal for those considering full time academic study, this comprehensive course will allow you to develop practical skills and experience on real excavation of a multi-period.

Cost €750. Dates for 2010: 7th June - 18th June 2010 - 5th July - 16th July 2010 - 26th July - 6th August 2010.

Introduction to Irish Archaeology

This practical week-long course provides an ideal introduction to the world of archaeology. Prior experience is not necessary as training will be provided in excavation methodology, surveying, planning, archaeological drawing, etc.

Field School Modular courses offering Academic Credit

The 4 week and 6 week Modular courses address the very real need for hands-on archaeological training for students of archaeology, a core component of this training is archaeological methodology, coupled with a number of complementary ancillary courses. The Achill Archaeological Field School is ideally placed and has the necessary infrastructure to provide the best possible academic and technical training for undergraduate and graduate students. Academic Credits are awarded by the National University of Ireland with whom the School has formal linkage.

6 week Module:- 9 Semester Credits (18ECTS). 4 week module:- 6 Semester Credits (12ECTS)

Cost 6 Week Module:- €4250. 4 Week Module:- €3450

Specialist Courses

The Achill Archaeological Field School schedules a range of residential specialist courses during the year. These courses include Digital Survey and Mapping, Ceramic Identification and Landscape Archaeology - surveying and mapping. For details of these courses please check our website.
